On traveling institutions and affective curatorial projects
Wednesday 7 March

Proyecto AMIL
Lima
A talk about the displacement of 2 important institutions for global and South American contemporary art to the city of Athens: Documenta 14 from Germany and Capacete from Brazil.
Under the name of Learning from Athens, during 2017 the Greek capital became the first simultaneous venue for Documenta 14, the quinquennial German exhibition in its 14th iteration. In this framework and as part of an experimental program organized in collaboration between Capacete, part of the Documenta 14 team and the School of Fine Arts of Athens; the Peruvian artist Eliana Otta, along with 12 other Latin American and Greek artists, were invited to live and work in Athens throughout the year.
Although Capacete’s original invitation consisted of “doing nothing”, the residence culminated with a large public program of talks, performances, workshops and a lot of dancing. Back in Lima, Eliana Otta will share some experiences and reflections on south-north & south-south relations, the problematic arrival of Documenta 14 to Athens and working collectively in a context crossed by social and political conflicts that are symptomatic of the contemporary world.
Eliana Otta’s residency in Athens was partially supported by Proyecto AMIL
