Unlike modern art movements -from impressionism to abstract expressionism- feminist art can not be defined by a medium, an approach or specific style. On the contrary, what distinguishes feminist art has been the introduction of a number of  socio-political issues -as well as aesthetic sensibilities- previously excluded from the art world, that have led to a complete reconfiguration of our understanding of artistic practice in itself.

Working in performance and video art, Elena Tejada-Herrera was one of the first Peruvian artists to incorporate content that mirrors the struggle of the women’s liberation movement. In the context of Elena Tejada-Herrera Videos From This Woman: Performance Documentation 1997-2010, Proyecto AMIL invites Alejandra Ballón (artist and researcher), Karen Bernedo (visual anthropologist and curator), Claudia Coca (artist and academic director of Corriente Alterna) and Lorena Peña (performance artist and cultural producer) to discuss the work of Elena Tejada-Herrera and to reflect on their own engagements with feminism.
