TALK: Group Activities

Iván Agorte

Wednesday 6th of July
7:30 pm

In the context of the exhibition –Sírvete de mi, sírveme de ti– at Proyecto AMIL, the artist Iván Argote –in conversation with Andrés Pereira Paz- will introduce us to a series of participatory projects in which he involves different communities in dynamics that, playfully and with a sharp sense of humour, utilize strategies derived from protest culture, civil disobedience and activism. Having been born in one of the revolutionary communes that were established in Bogota during the decades of the 70s and the 80s, from an early age Argote was exposed to ideals such as political commitment and citizen participation. Many of the projects that will be presented during the talk Group Activities seek to re-examine the potentialities and limitations of this politicized “common life” in the contemporary world.

Iván Argote (CO, 1983) lives and works in Paris. Throughout his different projects, the artist deals with the way in which man relates with the myriad changes that take place daily in the historical, economic, political and moral realms. By creating interventions and performances for the public space, which are sometimes further developed in the format of films and installations, the artist explores the city as a space of transformation. His work has been shown in several cities around the world
