proyectoamil is pleased to present an improvisational session for two violins, percussion and electronics, exploring introspective textures, high-energy polyrhythm, experimentalism and classical violin. A unique opportunity to see together three exponents at the forefront of contemporary music Jennifer Curtis, Pauchi Sasaki and Efrain Rozas.
Jennifer Curtis
The New York Times described violinist Jennifer Curtis’s second solo concert at Carnegie Hall as “one of the most gutsy and individual recital programs.” They celebrated her as “an artist of keen intelligence and taste, well worth following closely.”
Curtis navigates with personality and truth in every piece she performs. Jennifer is a longtime member of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and founder of the Tres Americas Ensemble. She has performed as a soloist with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela and the Knights Chamber Orchestra; performed in Romania in honor of George Enescu; given world premieres at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York; collaborated with composer John Adams at the Library of Congress; and performed at El Festival de las Artes Escénicas de Perú and festivals around the world.
As an educator focused on music as humanitarian aid, Jennifer has also collaborated with musical shamans in the Andes, improvised for live radio from inside the Amazon rainforest, and taught and collaborated with Kurdish refugees in Turkey.
Pauchi Sasaki
Described by The Wire as an artist “unafraid of working within different disciplines and stylistic constraints” (2015), Pauchi Sasaki’s interdisciplinary approach integrates musical composition with the design of multimedia performances and the application of new technologies. A composer, performer and improviser that collaborates actively with projects linked to film, dance, theater, installation, site specific and interdisciplinary performances.
Pauchi has performed internationally in Latin America, Europe, USA and Japan. Her music recreates intimate subjective landscapes through electro-acoustic sonorities mixed with field recordings and synthesis. Her compositions involve acoustic, amplified and electronic instrumentation performed through ensemble formats influenced by improvisational aesthetics and ethnic musical traditions.
Efrain Rozas
Peruvian interdisciplinary artist, researcher and robotics maker. His work was described as “an incredible physical presence that transformed the stage into a soundscape” by The New York Times, “A heady confluence of technology, culture and cognition” by The New Yorker, and “A deep psychonautical immersion” by Wire Magazine.
Rozas is a Jerome Artist Fellow 2023-2025 in interdisciplinary arts. He was a 2021 resident at The Kitchen, a recipient of the New York State Council’s Media Arts Assistance Fund/Wavefarm, the Jerome Foundation/Harvestworks New Works Commission, and the Knockdown Center (NYC) residency for time-based art. He has been featured at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Museum, Queens Museum, Levitation Festival, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Lima and Central Park Summerstage Fania Records 50th Anniversary.
