proyectoamil is pleased to invite you to the closing event of Inverse Expedition, Huanchaco’s exhibition, which opened in October 2024 under the curatorship of Claudia Rodríguez-Ponga and will conclude on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

The program begins with a guided tour led by the artist together with Trujillo-based archaeologist Wilo Vargas. This will be followed by a live performance by DJ Topa, Huachiman, and Mynezza, who will activate Checán Estéreo, the exhibition’s central work, through a live sound intervention.

Fernando Gutiérrez Cassinelli (Trujillo, Peru, 1978) studied Fine Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where he received the Adolfo Winternitz Prize each year of his studies. His practice spans a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, video, and photography. From 2006 to 2007, he was awarded a grant by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. His solo exhibitions include Civilización Atalaya (2021), MAC Lima; Manual para hablar con Dios (2021), Espacio Valverde, Madrid; Ejercicios de comprobación (2018), Galería Isabel Aninat, Chile; Manual para hablar con Dios (2016), Museo Bogotá; Horas de lucha (2012), Numero 2 (2009), and Superchaco (2006), Galería Lucía de la Puente, Lima. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including Maquinaciones (2023), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), Madrid; Ninguém teria acreditado (2021), Pinacoteca de São Paulo; La encomienda (2015), Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santiago; The Game Only Ends When It Ends (2013), a traveling exhibition curated by Alfons Hug and Paz Guevara; Menos Tiempo que Lugar (2010–2011), also curated by Alfons Hug; Entre Siempre y Jamás (2010), Latin American Pavilion, Venice Biennale; Carta de Jamaica (2011), Oi Futuro Visual Arts Gallery, Belo Horizonte, and Museu da Maré, Rio de Janeiro; The Franks-Suss Collection (2010), Saatchi Gallery, London; and Estado de las Ficciones (2010), Centro Cultural de España, Lima.

Wilo Vargas, born in Trujillo, is an archaeologist and researcher who graduated from the National University of Trujillo, as well as a visual artist trained at the Trujillo School of Fine Arts. He completed graduate studies in Museology and Cultural Management at Ricardo Palma University in Lima and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Audiovisual Screenwriting at the University of La Rioja, Spain. He has exhibited his artwork nationally and internationally and works extensively in curatorial practice and exhibition design for museums and interpretation centers.
