The practice of Martin Gustavsson (Sweden, 1964) twists the conventional aesthetics of painting, reinventing its methods of installation and interaction. Painting serves as a point of departure for reflecting on the impact of image-making in relation to themes such as religion, homophobia, and colonialism. His work cuts through visual and social constraints, speculating on the codes and distortions of narrative.

Two paintings are presented as an altar to sexual difference, challenging traditional ideas of aesthetics and beauty. Each painting tells a story that is deeply intimate—unapologetically sensual and homosexual.
