In his work, Gabriel Kuri often integrates “traditional” artistic references with vernacular languages. He combines diverse materials such as marble, metal, and stone with everyday objects like plastic bags, receipts, and cigarette butts. Contrasting the principles of minimalism with ideas of corruption and cross-pollination, Kuri incorporates the prosaic into his concise and formally controlled sculptures and collages.

Self-portrait as Painting with a Declination of Red Dot is a sculptural self-portrait made of golden insulating foam. The material bends into precise forms that present the body as a diagram of relationships and connections. A hanging object alludes to genitalia and bodily processes. In both manner and form, Kuri presents himself as a wavy parable and a sculptural object.
