Between January 24 and 29, a group of artists will participate in Comunidad de Médiums, a retreat-workshop in Cocachimba, Amazonas. It is an experimental proposal developed by Eliana Otta, with the support of proyectoamil and Goctalab in which the participants will carry out explorations that challenge dichotomies such as mind-body and thinking-feeling, at the base of the Gocta waterfall. In this first edition, proyectoamil is pleased to sponsor the participation of Clara Best, Venuca Evanan and Antonio Paucar who will join the other selected artists.
Immersed in nature, the participants will assume the role of the medium (or shaman) as someone who finds himself between different worlds, translating them and building bridges between them. Being an amalgamation of realities, Peru is in constant tension and conflict, during the workshop exercises will be carried out to try to translate and broaden the perception of our worlds, with a view to expand the horizon of belongings and relationships. As apprentice mediums, the artists —influenced by direct experience — will try to transmit the messages obtained through their bodies.
Participants will share ideas, insights, and questions, combining distinct traditions such as yoga, walks, ritual rehearsals, deep listening exercises, and reading circles. This will be a meeting to collectively address the urgency of developing vocabularies and translation tools in defense of life, understood in the broadest possible sense.
We hope that Comunidad de Médiums is an enriching experience for the participants and that as a result of this exchange, and the great inspirational and creative potential, an artistic project is developed to be presented in proyectoamil. The objective is to communicate the spirit of the experience, the importance of the conservation of our natural world and our coexistence. We are confident that efforts like this will motivate a wider audience.
Through a diverse program of residencies, proyectoamil offers opportunities for artists to develop their practice, explore connections and establish collaborations with colleagues and communities.
