proyectoamil is pleased to invite you to the launch of the virtual exhibition Prelude and Aftermath of the Doubt. This collective exhibition curated by Andrés Marroquín brings together a series of digital pieces, videos and online works, some interactive by the Peruvian artists Luz María Bedoya, Álvaro Icaza & Verónica Luyo, Teté Leguía, Frances Munar, Rita Ponce de León and Sandra Salazar. As well as the Chileans Raúl Zurita and Pablo Rivera, Hinrich Sachs from Germany & Fredrik Ehlin from Sweden, and Andrew Norman Wilson from the USA.

In these times of social isolation where digital emerges as an eminent horizon, Prelude and Aftermath of the Doubt reviews new possibilities of the word and the image in this era of reflection and radical transition of our modes of existence.

Digital communication unleashes new vital practices as the traditional relationship between producers and viewers is altered by the relatively easy access to a variety of multimedia production devices and interactive platforms. This scenario reveals a mutation in the ways of connecting through spoken, written, and symbolic language, imposed by digital media.

The title of this exhibition refers to a current crisis where all certainty has ceased. The works included in this exhibition fixate on this moment of incertitude and transformation, where present time is the very doubt itself, to think about its meaning – or its nonsensicality.

The exhibition has been conceived as a spatial extension of proyectoamil. It is a virtual platform that attempts to sketch a semiotic landscape through works that question their possibilities of existing. The pieces selected and commissioned for this exhibition do not seek dialogue, but rather confirm their critical existence and perhaps their failure.
